Hennepin County Men’s Adult Correctional Facility Boiler Replacement

Windsor Engineers led the mechanical design for a comprehensive heating and cooling system modernization at Hennepin County’s Men’s Adult Correctional Facility in Plymouth, MN — a 270,000 SF building originally constructed in 1930.

The multi-phase project replaced the facility’s aging steam boiler system with a modern dual-fuel natural gas/fuel oil condensing hot water boiler plant. Phase I introduced the new boiler plant and integrated hot water piping into the existing infrastructure. Phase II completed the full conversion of the remaining steam systems to hot water, expanded and relocated the chilled water plant to meet total building demand, replaced aging rooftop units and air handlers, and added conditioning to the main corridor.
